A memorable olfactory experience also comes from a few simple gestures.
Before each lighting
Trim the wick.
Make sure your wooden wick is trimmed to about ⅛" (3 mm) before lighting. This helps the candle burn evenly and prevents smoke.
Choose a calm spot.
Avoid drafts—shifting air can cause the flame to flicker unevenly and lead to irregular burning.Keep away from children and pets.
Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from flammable objects and wind drafts.
For the first burn
Let the wax melt all the way to the edges.
On the first lighting, allow the wax to melt fully to the edges of the vessel (usually 1–2 hours). This prevents tunneling and helps extend the life of your candle.
While burning
Never burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
Beyond that, the wax can overheat and affect the scent.
Handle with care.
Always let the wax cool and solidify completely before moving the candle.
After the last Glow
When the Flame Fades, the Story Continues
When your candle has fully burned, you can easily clean and repurpose the jar with these gentle steps:
- Make sure the wax and vessel have cooled completely.
- Place the jar in the freezer for a few hours — the cold helps the wax contract and come away from the glass.
- Carefully lift out the wax using the back of a spoon or a wooden stick. Press lightly to avoid damaging the jar.
- Remove the wick base if needed (a small pair of pliers can help), then wash the jar with warm, soapy water.
